Lark Books’ “Showcase 500 Beaded Jewelry: Photographs of Beautiful Contemporary Beadwork” is out and friend and client Kandra Norsigian is in it!
This is a gorgeous addition to Lark’s “5oo” series of art and craft books. As ever, the production is superb. The selection is varied, but uniformly excellent.
Good friends, including Marcie Stone, Susan Blessinger, Marcia DeCoster and Ana Garcia are featured in this book. In fact, San Diego’s beading and jewelry design community is incredibly well represented. Jeanette Cook, Leslie Frumin, Mary Hicklin, Valerie Kuzma, Nancy Meli Walker, Joseph Naskar, and Cooky Schock are included. I’m sure the Bead Society of San Diego County is very proud of the inclusion of so many talented artists. (I’m counting both Kandra and Marcie as honorary San Diegans because they both spent much time here and added so much to the community).
Kandra’s beaded amulet purse (page 74), designed by Debra Ward and executed by Kandra, has been shown on these pages, but is worth the repetition. It’s spectacular!
The photo was shot using a Nikon D300 camera, Nikkor 60mm micro lens, and tungsten softbox lighting in my Escondido studio, just north of San Diego.
Kandra’s Beads is a great bead shop in the heart of Solvang, just off the central California coast, less than an hour north of Santa Barbara. It’s a quaint and beautiful town filled with galleries, antique shops and great restaurants. Kandra’s shop is located at 1539A Mission Drive. You can see more of her work in person or at her website: www.kandrasbeads.com.
The book can be purchased at Amazon.com at a deep discount.
Congrats to Kandra and Debra and all of the other talented artists whose work graces these beautiful pages.
