Tidepool Bowls by Vanessa Raffi Backer

Vanessa Raffi Backer is a wonderful friend and artist.  She is one of the people who brought Jonna to jewelry design.  Vanessa was a ceramic artist in college (and probably before), who became a truly talented jewelry designer.  While she still designs and builds jewelry (see her copper work in my jewelry gallery), in the last few years, she’s gone back to her first love.  Her Tidepool Bowls are among the most gorgeous ceramic pieces I’ve ever seen.

Vanessa has been chosen to participate the Clay Artists of San Diego Juried Show at Spansh Village (Gallery 21) in Balboa Park now through May 2, 2011.  If you’re in town, it’s worth seeing.

And her website is www.vanessabacker.com, to see more of her work.

Saw these bowls in person, and they are breath-taking. Talk about drawing you in! They are infinitely beckoning. Drawing you in closer and closer, remarkable both at a distance and close up. Would love to see the show!

Steve, your photos certainly capture the essence of her “beyond compare” talent!

Thanks Judith! I figure if I can capture a little of the essnce of her art, I’m way ahead of the game. Vanessa’s work is gorgeous.
